[V8] meandering thoughts on a mild Saturday

I have had mixed experience buying cars long distance but on the whole
it's been very good. The reason my long distance buying experience has
been good is because I have bought only from established dealers, only
one of which was listing on eBay. The eBay auction that was a success
for me was for my current '90 V8 Quattro and I was very careful. But the
Carfax that I bought for the car confirmed the seller's listing info
plus the huge number of additional questions I asked.

At the end of the day, I will likely buy the next car from a dealer
although a private sale might work out well, depending on the amount of
documentation regarding service that the seller can provide. Right now
there is a nice looking allroad on eBay that looks very good....right up
until you see the title as being "rebuilt" while the owner claims no
accidents. Well, the truth is there were NO accidents. BUT the car
needed transmission computer replacement because the cowl drain was
allowed to get clogged up and flood back inside the passenger footwell.
This will be a car that I will avoid because the potential for extensive
and continuing electrical issues related to corrosion if nothing else,
indicates to me a car with an undesirable history.

I expect my search once it begins in ernest, to last quite a long time.
I also expect to need to travel for the right car as there is NO way
that I will buy a car that has lived its entire life here in the frozen
north.
