[V8] Bought an A8L

Paul,
It is a conversion to manual, sorry I didn't elaborate. Mine is a 99. Pain in the butt. The writeup is over on motorgeek.com, you can search '6spd Conversion' or go to the link below:

http://www.motorgeek.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=48486&p=892082&hilit=6spd+conversion#p892082

I assume yours is a 2001 or newer if it is an 'L' - that makes everything easier. The 32v motor has a 10 bolt crank and no way to re-code the ecu. I had to make my own flywheel and re-chip the computer. On your 40v motor you can buy a flywheel from an s4 and just re-code the ecu! I know what you are saying about the shifting - sometimes I wish I didn't! Enjoy your a8!

 Wow Convert to manual I
assume- what year?  Just learning about component
protection, and the software to run the A8...-
not sure how a 6 spd
 conversion would fit
 into the mix.

 My V70R was a
six speed too. But we also have a TT 6 and a Turbo Buggy
 5spd,
I ride an E-bike too,  I was getting
 a little tired of shifting!

 Congrats!  I went from
two v8s to my A8.  I really enjoyed my v8s but I love
 the a8 too - just a different car.  I
occasionally drive a customers v8 and
 its
fun but I love to get back to my a8.  I converted mine to a
 6spd and it
 really 'wakes' the car
 up.  Enjoy

 Guy just down
the road in the city here had a pristine A8L
up for sale. Looked at it weeks ago. Then went
 about
business to sell off my V70R wagon,
which I did in like 1
 week.

 Went back to the dude
yesterday and cut a deal for the
 A8L.
Great car, in gorgeous condition. Has that 4.2
growl. Feels like a bit of a Checker cab
 compared to the
 V8's. Which is OK cause
 I like the space.

 No leaks
so far lol. Maint records indicate about $3K a year
to service - but low miles 10K km's
 annually.

 Paul
