On the v8 anyway it is possible to use the abs brake sensor for the timing reference sensors. It is a bit of a hack to get them mounted but I believe they are a much more durable sensor and better able to take heat. If you are selling the car though then just go for the cheapies. I had the abs sensors installed on my v8 for years with no problems.

Found a lot of guys having to replace the speed sensor (different location than the V8), just wondering if it's the same as the V8/200/100?etc., and can use the cheap ebay ones. Any other A8 info would be appreciated as it seems many have chose to move on to that car. He's not stranded, as he can drive his truck/son's soon to be listed Black V8, but he said he doesn't want to drive the V8 as he'll just want to keep it, and he's trying to get rid of stuff and in his mind's eye, pretty much know's the V8 is stayin.....Ha.
