Read this thread so far, and I can't see anything special in any Euro Box
currently made. Nothing that would make it worth the money, and the
headaches they bring.
The last "real" European cars, the ones you can sit in and tell the build
quality the minute you slam the door, have long been a memory for most.
I've driven and worked on some of the latest and greatest ubber Teutonic
beasts. Can't say any one has stood out above a high end Asian or even
American car. Everything the Japanese big three or four put out is
pretty much bullet proof and reliable.
When it came time to get the wife a new grocery getter the last time
around, Euro boxes weren't even in the running. The ones that had bodies
which held up had atrocious mechanical costs in $$ and blood when the
inevitable "they all have that problem" comes around. The ones which
were/are fairly reliable are friggin rust buckets here in the NE, I
suspect some of the Mercyless Benz's would rust at the bottom of Death
Valley in summer. I got her a Venza, AWD, V6 with plenty O balls, just
about all the toys.....and EVERYTHING works as perfectly as it did two
years ago when I got it, I don't even know what anything looks like
under the engine cover, as I've only seen it from the bottom for oil
changes. I've given a few euro boxes a run for the money when they've
wanted to play, it's no slouch when you decide to play too.
As for the "soul" which was that inexplicable part of the Teutonic
driving experience, IMHO from driving the examples of the last decade or
so, they've sold their soul for the bottom line.
My 2 cents, adjusted for inflation.
BCNU,
Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.
