Have owned more than 1 V8 conversion (V8 auto converted to 5-speed manual, 200 20V Avant manual converted to V8 manual), I can say the following (with no confidence since it has been 10+ years):
- the instrument clusters are different (the auto has PRNDL in the display),
- there is a lock-out of some sort for the automatic transmission (brake pedal depressed to shift out of park?)
- the auto brake pedal is a bit wider and easier to find
- the automatic has some weird electric-mechanical gizmo so it knows what gear it is shifted into and can display that in the cluster (going from an automatic to a 5-speed, that needed some doctoring to the ECU/TCU (Transmission Control Unit) would not get confused)
I am sure there are other snags (different ECU? No TCU in the 5-speed?) that may pose a challenge. In sum, if I had a 5-speed and wanted an automatic, I would search for a good V8 automatic and sell the V8 5-speed.
