I also liked the thought of an Audi V8 wagon, to the point of owning for a short while a 200 Avant with an Audi V8 transplanted into it. But when my A4 developed steering rack issues, I was done with Audi. I’ve since bought an ’06 Jeep Grand Cherokee — V8, AWD, can be switch into 4WD Low for those nasty situations. I found a Limited edition with GPS and 6-CD changer built in. The suspension must have been worked on by Mercedes-Benz, who owned Chrylser/Jeep at the time, because it is firm and responsive without being harsh. The V8 (4.7L, not the 5.7L Hemi) is quiet and responsive; so is the V6 I tested while shopping. Heated leather seats (that still work at 160K miles), power everything. It even has a tow package and receiver hitch. I’ve got about 10K miles on it, and am still a happy camper.
If you are bored, look at one of these. I can’t vouch for the newer models, but they shouldn’t have gotten worse.
