WellI am a bit more brand agnostic, and my lowest cost of ownership of any vehicle has been my 94 toyota landcruiser.... Venza and RDX are worthy drives if considering the SRX. SRX steady state highway you might see 20, but the srx is heavy, the 3.6 is powerful, but she is thirsty, and we have never seen the EPA published numbers. That said, it does give a lot of toys in the price-point... Toys VAG won t give at the rs-line level. Not a terrible choice if you truly believe the SRX to be american iron. virtually ALL of our driving is open road, two lane with few stops
a little to no traffic. Also, our total use of the vehicle will
likely not exceed 12,000 miles annually, so how bad will fuel
mileage make ownership? I'm expecting perhaps 20 miles per gallon
overall, which is about what the 100CS did, in general.
As far as the Toyota goes....ah, ah, ah...it's Japanese, isn't
it? I don't think I can do that no matter what, although my
mechanic would probably start to believe I am not totally insane.

My sig O drives an SRX 3.6. Good machine, and so far fairly
reliable. Gas mileage is much lower than one would expect from the 3.6, but otherwise a decent
machine. Personally, if you are considering that seriously,
take a look at the AWD v6 Toyota Venza. A lot of machine for
the money, and the v6 awd driveline is silky and excellent
mileage to boot.
It is tough to jump into the millenium, as bulletproof
machines are tougher to find. A natural progression from a c4
avant would be the Venza.
Good luck on your quest. I personally stayed in the v8
quirky brethron and went for the v10 touareg TDI to replace some
aging urs6 machines.
