Hello out there,
My dad recently picked up an '81 diesel pickup to replace his ailing '80. =
The '80 had a 1.6D swapped into it a couple of years ago, and that engine j=
ust seized. The '81's injection pump's pulley wheel was on crooked, so the=
timing belt was riding incorrectly, causing it to try eating itself. We f=
igured that the best course of action would be to swap the pump from the '8=
0 over to the '81.
Things were going fine until he started pulling the injection pump pulley w=
heel off of the crooked pump. As he tighted the wheel puller, it eventuall=
y snapped the pulley wheel in two (that bugger is on there tight!). He tri=
ed working it back and forth, and tried again, and it snapped again. Now t=
here's just a little bit of the pulley wheel left on the pump, which doesn'=
t allow it to be pulled out of the mount. GRRR!
Here's a photo: http://matt_lisa.home.sprynet.com/DSC00011.jpg
We've thought about using a dremel or a die grinder or something to cut the=
rest of the pulley wheel off, and we've also thought about removing the wh=
ole bracket. The rest of the injection pump bolts have been removed, and a=
ll we have to do is get this pulley wheel removed. Has anyone bumped into =
this problem before?? Talk about a PITA!
Any ideas?
Matt
