 Hi Jim,

I am just wondering if you are looking at the TDC notch. Very close to the notch is a tab that sticks out. The tab is about one quarter inch wide. The TDC notch is a v-groove, and it is easy to center. The first time I timed my D-Westy I used the tab and had no power and big black smoke.

I have tried several timing settings. I did see some difference between .86mm and .92 but very little. In other words the black smoke and power were very similar.

Use the 0.86

You will not want to use the pin to time the pump.
