  That's basically my thinking as well.  First off, as Nate found, it's
nearly
impossible to keep things in an as was fashion.  It's hard enough to make
sure things don't go in flipped 180!  All the surfaces are equally worn.  If
not then the joint is beyond reasonable usage or is strictly to get you by
until the replacement arrives.  Often one or more balls will fall or jump
out,
anyway.  We never even bothered keeping them separate at the dealer.
Of course if there was any pitting then they got replaced anyway.
