Look for the lower, rear injector pump bolt to be loose or missing. This
is a perfect description of the problems that happen when this bolt is
missing or loose. Sometimes it gets overlooked after setting timing.
Timing can be set "in the ballpark" without the dial indicator and adapter,
but that's about it. A good caliper and patience can also do it I've heard.
The tools can be bought for about $120 to $150 and sometimes show up
on ebay.
