Another thing:

I always look deep inside the filter to see if somthing is in there.  No te=
lling what could get in there in storage.  I also run my finger around the =
threads to pick up metal turnings from the tap that cut the threads.  Not t=
o mention, I pre-fill the filter a few times before installing, since its i=
nstalled vertical, to minimize a dry start.

I only used one fram, and only for a few minutes. After an oil change and
start-up, when I got out of the car, 4 quarts of oil in a big puddle on the
driveway.

The gasket was still in the box!

Stupid me for not checking, stupid them for not installing it properly.

Never saw a filter with "optional" gasket before.

My standard filter is from Canadian tire, #1882

No problems in 12 years.
