Tom,

I also own a 1992 ECOdiesel (a rare car, indeed) and have noticed as of
late that the water level light comes in intermittently. There's plenty of
collant, and the water pump seems to be pumping along as it should, but
there's that light flashing.

I have determined that it is either a) an electrical gremlin, or b) a
faulty sensor. In my 1991 Jetta diesel, I had a similar problem with the
oil light. In my 1985 Jetta diesel, the glow plug lights when the air
conditioner in turned on. I have determined that there's something odd with
relation to the gauge package and older Jettas. That being said, I think
the only cure (once you've ruled out that there is a "real" problem) is to
replace the sensor, or replace the gauge cluster.

Robert
