I've had a few Quantums - mostly gas - I only have one in the yard now
(5 CYL GAS).
My '84 TD was an automatic station wagon - didn't like the auto - if I
bought another
it would have to be stick shift. I replaced the tranny on mine with one
from an Audi
without the "E" mode . I used a gas tranny with my the original diesel
torque converter
and diesel governor - worked great (the E mode put the tranny in neutral
any time
your foot was off the gas - I would have bypassed that feature anyway)
The '84 EPA gas mileage guide lists the auto TD at 32 mpg and the stick
TD at 42 mpg.
That says it all
