[Vwdiesel] A good diesel book?

I own a diesel vanagon and would like to self-educate a little more
regarding diesel engines in general, but the VW 1.6NA specifically. I
borrowed Kelm's 'Diesel engine mechanics' and the Intertec ''Small diesel
engine service manual', from the local library; both of which were pretty
good in places but not great overall. Can anyone recommend any other good
diesel primers? I wish the Bentley people put out something a little easier
to follow and with more detailed on the 1.6NA VW diesel engine. Does
Bentley do a better, more detailed job on the engine in their
Rabbit/Golf/PickUp service manual? Any online resources on this particular
engine?
I'm currently having a low miles rebuilt engine put in my van and will keep
the old (200k) engine as a spare. Ultimately I'd like to the old engine
apart and learn how to rebuild it. It'd be great to have a book to help me
along. It must be a very satisfying feeling when you can diagnose engine
problems because you have rebuilt that motor yourself.
Cheers!
