Nope, you want to turn the screw IN for more fuel. 1/8 turn is about right,
a little turn equals a lot of fuel!
Clockwise = more fuel, counterclockwise = less fuel.

I am doing this because I recently had a 1.9 NA installed and feel I

Bigger exhaust always helps. BD has about 3% less energy than petrodiesel,
so expect a slight decrease in power. Better burning characteristics may
help to offset that, however.

>2) Do I make this adjustment with the engine running or not?

Either, but not running might be easier.

>3) Am I looking for trouble?

Only if you turn it up too much. Big clouds of black smoke are not the best
thing, all the way around.

If it's a turbo, you REALLY should have a pyrometer hooked up. You can get
into serious trouble by overfueling a turbo engine. As long as you stay away
from lots of smoke with a NA you should be OK with a small tweak.

Keep in mind that both the idle speed and maximum governed speed will be
changed when you adjust the max power screw. If you add more fuel, you will
need to turn the idle down and the pump will allow the engine to exceed the
redline unless the maximum speed is also turned down. Decreasing the max
power adjustment will have the opposite effect.

If you switch between biodiesel and petrodiesel, you may see some
differences in smoke between the two, with BD smoking less.

 Happy clattering!
