The reason that this is so is the difference in the EGR system. I don't know
about the 97 but the 98 ALH and AHU engines have a cooler for the exhaust
before it enters the manifold. This cooling, I believe, is partially
responsible for the soot and oil build up many of the A4 TDI people have
suffered when they have used CF or lower rated oils. For the ALH and the
AHU engines, I would stick with the CG or CH rated oils that are formulated
for EGR engines. Hayden
