A few weeks ago, one of our alert listees tipped me off to a Motorvac
machine that was being auctioned on Ebay.
Some time back there was a discussion on one of the lists about these.
They're sold under the Motorvac name and also by Snap On. The Diesel model
acts as an internal engine cleaner; apparently the machine is something of a
proportioning valve to add a proprietary non-combustible detergent to a fuel
source. My understanding is that it goes beyond cleaning injectors and does
the whole valvetrain and combustion chamber.
The vehicle maintenance manager where I work has had some experience
with them and wants one for his shop. His experience was running military
vehicles through the machine and then through emissions tests, where, he
said, the techs couldn't believe the low readings they were getting.
Additionally, he talked the Snap On salesman into running one of our dump
trucks through it; several months later that truck is still getting about 2
mpg more than the rest of the trucks.
At any rate, I contacted the seller on our manager's behalf and got a
price from him. Unfortunately, due to the recession, we don't get any new
toys this year. Therefore, if any listees know of a shop that might already
be interested in one of them, p-mail me and I'll relay the seller's e
address. I know that retail on one of them is in the area of $4 grand.
He's asking a good bit less than that. Naturally, it wouldn't be economical
for one or even a few vehicles, but for a shop that deals in Diesel vehicles
it may be worthwhile.
Disclaimer: I don't personally know the seller and will gain nothing
from any transaction. I don't know anything about his character or business
ethics. But if someone with a shop or a ton of Diesel vehicles knows what
the machines are and already wants one, I'd be glad to forward the contact
information. Then you're on your own.
