Dad, my daughter and I headed to the ocean for the weekend. On the way
I suggested we take a 20 minute detour and stop at VW dealer and look
at a 97 Passat they had.
Dad's been talking seriously of selling the 83 300D and getting a TDI
Passat or Golf automatic. I figured he needed to actually see and drive
what he was considering! Guess what, we swung by there again, on the
way home and I got to drive back his "new" car! :)
97 Passat TDI, 74K miles, looks nearly new, drives great, radio sucks.
It's a nice dark medium, metallic green.
There are a couple of minor issues. At lower speeds, with just the slightest
bit of throttle, it lightly surges/bucks. There's a bit of a low frequency
vibration in the back when doing over 70, sometimes, or when almost
lugging it at lower speeds. The radio has generally poor reception and
the image rejection is some of the worst I've seen. It'll pick up one
station in several locations. It's the factory "premium" AM/FM/Cassette
with Panasonic CD changer.
Any ideas or general tips would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
Loren
