[Vwdiesel] Inj Pumps for Hybrid TDI (no ECU)

I recall reading about someone modifying a Bosch VE style pump for use with the much higher breaking pressure of direct injection.  As I recall someone may have used a TDI head on an 1.9L TD (AAZ) block (no serpentine belt to get in the way of a direct 1.6 to 1.9 swap) and was selling the setup.  Is this true?  Anyone else hear of this / know where to get more info?
