Y'know. I would think so too, but an article that I read a looong time ago
recommended this.  It was to lube the seal lip- the fine scratches aid in
lubrication of seal lip by holding some oil, but eventually get polished off
anyway as the seal gets old, so I don't know what to think. Wouldn't hurt it by
polishing either. Dunno, I'll look around and see if I can find it, but all
pre-marriage car and shop books are in boxes.
