Goes by plumber's tape, emery tape, abrasive tape- I get mine at acklands.
 Plumbing shop should have too, 220 grit is good all purpose handy stuff to
have around.

It doesn't seem like it should, but it works.

Maybe, but that small a thread strips easily.
There's always a vice grip....  Unless they've ben loctited in, they should
come out fairly easily. Just do something where you WANT them to stay in, and
they'll come right out.
