There's the inner fender. IF you manage to jack the engine high enough
to clear the front "frame extensions" then you still have nearly a foot of
inner fender to clear. The outer fender only adds about an inch. You'd
have all the mounts loose or removed by this time as probably well as
the CV joints. That just leaves a couple wires and cables and the
engine drops down instead of up. Trust me, I've jacked them up to do
passenger side mounts and the intermediate shaft is nowhere near
being coaxed out.

They're a solid, circular bearing like any in block cammed engine has.
One is just past the vacuum pump and the other is a couple inches in
from the nose of the shaft.

Driving the bearings in is tedious. It should be simple with a cam bearing
tool. I've seen one used on cam bearings but never used one on these
since I don't have one. :P I've just used a variety of LARGE sockets and
extensions to drive them in. Not a quick procedure. I've never found a hone
the right size that would reach, especially to the rear bearing. I've just
used emory cloth and reached in from below, no crank in block. I then
proceed to manually "sand" the bearing down evenly. Once the shaft
will fit in then it'll make marks on the high spots and I work those down.
Read, VERY TEDIOUS!

How do you mean it threw the int. shaft off? A lot of these engines get
"rebuilt" without doing these bearings. There are a lot of things that
aren't
in Bentley. For one, it's more of an owner's repair manual than a tech's.
The factory manual has more info on various things but I don't know just
how to get one. These were also considered a non-replacement item I
seem to remember reading somewhere. They weren't available anywhere
for the longest time.
