  I wouldn't say it's not possible but the vacuum pump is driven by the
intermediate shaft.  That should put it in one position of thrust no matter
how worn it's bearings are.  For the vacuum pump to wobble the intermediate
shaft enough to wear the bearings seems a little far fetched.  If the
bearings
were worn enough for any wobble, they were gone to start with.  Just my
opinion.

  To sand, I mean hone ;-) it I think so.  There may be room with the crank
turned right but I also think that would be with no rods in the way.  :o
  To replace them with hopefully true no-hone bearings, I'd buy a cam
bearing tool, or borrow one, beg someone with one to do it, etc.  :)
