Scott,
The Datsun PU's were sold in the US w/ diesel option from 81-84. The 81-83
models had the SD22, '84 got the bigger SD25. Engines are basic, gear drive
cam & pump, OHV designs. Cast iron construction, IDI heads. No turbo
options in US models.
General specs:
SD22 IDI diesel 2164CC's 61HP at 4000RPM 102Ft/lb's at 1800RPM
3.27"x3.94" BxS 21.6 C.R.
SD25 IDI diesel 2488CC's 68HP at 4000RPM 112Ft/lb's at 1600RPM
3.50"x3.94" BxS 21.4 C.R.
Excellent longevity (except for body rust), no mechanical failure points
AFAIK, unlike the flimsy Toyota minitruck diesels. The Diesel was only
available in 2WD light duty PU's, not in 3/4ton or 4WD trucks. Note that a
turbo 6 cyl. version (SD33T?) was available in IH Scouts for a year or two at
the end of their run.
Rumors on the Scout diesel websites are that even the service parts (oil &
fuel filters) are getting hard to find in the US.
That's about all the info I have, and more than we needed on the VW list. 8^)
