Don't use additives to "disperse" water in diesel. Open the little drain
on the filter or drain the separator on A2 Jettas (golfs?)
First thing is to look for air bubbles in the clear line from the filter to
the
pump. Air filter "not especially dirty" is open to a lot of interpretation.
:)
In 4,000 miles or less mine was dirty enough it was permitting less power.
Nothing major but a good blowing it out fixed the problem! It's not LIKELY
it's the air filter but it is possible.
Check your pedal travel relative to the pump arm. The A1 bodies use a
rubber sponge bushing where the cable connects to the pedal and as it
ages, the cable cuts into it, or it just rots away, leaving very little pump
throttle arm movement for the amount of pedal travel. A2 bodies have
the same linkup but use a rubber bushing. You might just find a lot of
slop in the cable out by the pump. Of course it's likely to find a lot of
air bubbles in the line too!
