Along these lines...
My service place replaced antifreeze & thermostat & flushed my '91 Jetta TD. Temp gauge used to always sit at the 2/3 mark; now I have prob's getting above the 1/4 mark in the city (my work commute is 25km, city driving) and only get up to 1/2 mark on the highway at 20km over the limit (of course, at this speed, I keep to the right lane to not get trampled by the semis & SUVs).
I plug in at night (block heater, battery warmer) and low temps in Toronto are currently barely below freezing. My concern is that when temps drop to normal winter lows (-10 to -15C) The Rattler may not even get to the 1/4 mark! Always thought that below-normal operating temps resulted in more wear and buildup of condensation etc.
