[Vwdiesel] Re: 1.9 vs 1.6 T

I was tempted to replace the worn out 1.6 TD in mine w/ a brand spank'in new 1.9
TD, but at $3,200+, that seemed a bit much. Then don't forget the new clutch
pack, belts, hoses, etc, things that could add another $200 - $500.

I did well to replace the beat 1.6 TD with another (rebuilt) TD, new (rebuilt PP)
clutch pack, rebuilt TD injectors, belts, water pump, T-belt tensioner, new
injection pump shaft seal. My turbo had about 45,000 miles on a rebulit
cartridge, so I used it. Hoses looked fine, and I keep an eye on them. All for
about $1,200, I guess. That's about a third of going the new 1.9 TD route. For a
20 year old car, that's a good option. If I put a new 1.9 TD in it and wrecked
(or got it hit) the car, I'd take a real loss.

As miserly as I am, the above would bother me, in addition
