[Vwdiesel] More newbie ?s

I have here an '82 Jetta 1.6NA that was severely overheated.  On a gas
engine such treatment would result in 1.) blown head gasket, 2.)
warped/cracked head and 3.) cracked block. Does a Diesel fail in the
same manner, or is it more likely to have just damaged the top end? In
other words, should I bid on the 1.6 head that's on epay and, if
successful, have some hope of cheaply fixing daughter's beater?
