Whoops! Forgot to mention that I checked the glow plug circuit, pulled one =
glow plug and tested. All looked OK.

Hi gang,Quick question. On the driver's end of the fuel injection pump on a=
1983 VW Turbodiesel, there are two outlets. The lower outlet is clearly fo=
r the return fuel line. The upper outlet with a banjo fitting has a small s=
oft rubber hose attached to it and is about 4" long. What is this for and w=
here does it go? I am trying to get this engine started. Have checked fuel =
delivery - OK, air purged out of lines - OK, air filter changed, timing rig=
ht on the mark with micrometer, and starter speed OK. Guess the last thing =
is compression, but don't have a compression gauge to fit the diesel. So I =
am guessing overheated, warped head along with rings that have lost their t=
ension. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, E.J.
