  I was thinking the 16V were good.  They have the larger input shaft like
the
cable shift transmissions?  There was some reason why the larger input
shaft was wanted.  Don't remember much of why anymore.  It was close
ratio like GTI I was thinking.  It had something to do with an intentionally
omitted circlip as I recall, rather than it being the bolted ring gears.
When
those break loose, it's much worse than the shaft coming through the housing.
