  All of them I've seen had a two piece configuration.  The Automatic is
kind of like a roundish, big game cube!  It hangs off the back of the
diff.  A friend had done many of them and I think he said he can have
them off in something like a half hour or 45 minutes!  Then he explained
that was just the transmission and not the whole transaxle.
  The seals were problematic on some of the cars.  It's actually two
seals.  One pointed one way and the other turned 180.  The problem is
they're both installed into one housing, with little room to work and one
usually gets pressed in a little off or the seal surface gets damaged when
going over the shaft.
  He really poo-pooed the unintended acceleration thing but on one occasion
had a 5000 engine suddenly wind way up then drop back, while he was
working under the hood!  He'd done nothing to cause it, it just did it on
it's
own!  He still believes 99.9% of the cases were from stepping on the gas
though.
