  I'm not sure of the years, but I know some of the later busses used
engines with the fan on the crank. It made for a lower load floor.
 My Dad used Squarebacks for years on his rural mail carrier route. One of
the things he liked about that type of engine layout was that if the fan
belt broke, he could still drive it home. If the belt broke on a bug, you
had better be stopping right now!
 Either way, talk to someone who has converted an aircooled bus to a
watercooled for advice on engine mounting, transaxle gearing, etc.
 I  know someone in town who put a Toyota 2TC in his aircooled bus. Worked
quite well, too.
