as a quick note, possibly to help in your diagnosis,
systems that are overfull do NOT cool well. systemst that are underfull
tend to cool VERY well - often freezing up because they get soo cold.
Sometimes a system that has a leak will continue to get cooler and cooler
until it then gets warm. this is usually the progression of a slow leak,
and the warming up takes palce once all of the refrigerant has leaked
out.
I had a 1986 Jetta NA D that did **exactly** what you are describing, it
turned out to be the compressor bearing that was going out, and heating
the clutch up, and melting the belt off.... everything was fine, as long
as i didn't turn the AC on.....
