[Vwdiesel] injection pump - lift pump possibility??

Okay, I just picked up an 82 Jetta 1.6 NA.  The wiring is way messed up.. m=
ore on that later.

Glow plugs shot, it'll start with ether and will idle okay..  I'm working o=
n it.

The injection pump seems to be the issue.  NOTHING coming out of the return=
 banjo fitting on the pump, very little pull on the pump, it'll idle but wo=
n't pull through the air in the line from changing the fuel filter.

The old fuel filter was almost completely full of water (ugh.)

The $$ for a new pump isn't in the cards.  How has anyone's luck been at ju=
nkyards?  Ever find a good one?  Are what years are interchangeable with an=
 82 1.6l NA Jetta, I assume any other 1.6l NA, how about the 1.9l NA or 1.5=
l NA?

** Has anyone tried putting a lift pump onto the VW system to get the fuel =
through the pump?  Will this work?

I don't see any leaks from the injection pump itself.
