Mark, try this and send pictures. Please. I have this mental image worthy of
a great vaudeville act... lol!
Works well enough to just run the tap in, and stuff a narrow blow gun in
each hole a few times, then clean the mess up. Wrap a rag around the blow
gun when you pull the trigger to catch the crud that shotguns out of the
hole.
You could use a bottoming tap, or an old bolt with a grove hacksawn or
ground lengthwise across the threads to catch the crud much like a tap
flute. It is important to have the threads clean as far as the bolts goes,
which isn't completely to the hole bottom, so no, bottoming tap isn't
critical, but you would have to chase until the major diameter of the tap is
to where the bolt ends. Plug tap would be a nice compromise, as they are
easier to use, less chance of sticking or removing metal. It just has to
clean, not cut... Taper tap may not have full depth of thread threads far
enough down.
