[Vwdiesel] help! stuck injector shield

1982 Jetta 1.6L NA

So, I'm trying to figure out what the PO did to this vehicle, the bad signs:
dirty dirty air cleaner (missing a clip-uh oh) water in the fuel filter,
compression and sounds from the coolant reservior sound like a head gasket.

Injector #4 was so sooty that I could barely get out the injector, black
crud up to and partially in the threads!  It's got a strange injector
shield, with a much larger opening, though #3 had the same kind of shield
(#1,#2 had anti-seize and the smaller opening shields)

THE CURRENT PROBLEM:

I can't get injector shield #4 out of the head and I don't want the break
anything.  I've soaked it for a week with P'Blaster, and pried some with a
screwdriver and a bit with a little hook made with a wire.  I'm trying to
avoid pulling the head until I figure out what else is wrong with the
vehicle, to determine if it's a parts car or a fixer (like the rusty
old-style fuse box/realy plate-no headlights).  Any ideas?
