For my 84 Rabbit D, I bought a stainless steel flexible joint that looked
like it was covered with woven stainless fabric. It was original equipment
on a Dorf Aerostar van. About $40. I had it welded in place of the stock
joint and it has served well for a year. Diesels need flexibility there,
since they vibrate more than gassers at idle. My diesel exhaust systems
never rust out....they always vibrate and crack, and I get the cracks
welded. The flexible joint has solved most of that.
