My "unknown" '84 Rabbit started up nicely last night, thanks to
everyone who sent me ideas on getting a dry fuel system going again.
I had a bad time when I first cranked it and the timing belt suddenly
went slack- I guess the strain of using the starter to move the engine
stripped off a bunch of teeth- but amazingly, the crank and cam didn't
move, relative to each other! A new belt and some timing later, and
it's all apparently good.
