Ok mike my book say Pull cold start out ( all the way ) and put the pedal
to the metal and leave it there till it starts. ( NO pumping ).
Oh yeah, I forgot that subject. Pumping the throttle does nothing other
than pull on a spring from what I understand. It won't do squat.
Supposedly,
the pump is resting at full fuel until the governor cranks to speed, from
running, then drops to idle. Holding the pedal all the way down only seems
to be advantageous in the fact that when the engine does fire, it allows the
rpm to increase beyond idle, however far, until you let off.
Oddly I have found that my 5000 starts better (worn engine and hates
cold weather due to low compression and bad injector or two) if I pulse
the throttle from nothing to full about every 3 seconds or so, while
cranking.
It takes quite some time to start it most of the time, no matter what.
