[Vwdiesel] old fuse box - bypass for headlights? fuse box surgery? bentley diagrams?

1982 Jetta 1.6 NA

Alright, I'm putting more and more of this vehicle back together.

Headlight highbeam switch not working, dash light switch not working, BUT I
can figure those out.  All turn signals are working.  Passenger side
headlights working.  All headlights are good.

DRIVER'S side headlights not working.

Wires good going into fuse/relay block, Wires good coming out of fuse block.
Wires INSIDE block not working right for driver's side.

** Do the 1982 Jetta headlights run through a relay?   If not, I was
thinking of jumping the incoming wires and adding in-line fuses directly to
the headlights.  Any thoughts?

** How do you go about opening up the fuse/relay block?  If there's a relay
I'll try fixing the connections before buying a new fuse block.

Last but not least:  Bentley doesn't list a 1982 Jetta in the wiring
diagrams (making this much more difficult)  I've been using the 1980 rabbit
deluxe diagrams..  Anyone know if they are really the same or not?
