Top radiator hose is hot, bottom hose is warm - easy to hold in hand.
Jet of hot water spraying into expansion tank (means water pump is working?)
Forcing water into radiator - gushes out the other hose.
Forcing water into exp. tank, water gushes out the top radiator hose.

Sounds like you have a problem. ;-) The lower hose should be hot not
warm. The circulation in these is bottom up not top down, like most
other cars. Did you fill the engine from the radiator end of the upper hose?

If not then this is a typical scenario. I don't think you can put these
stats in backwards. Spring goes toward the block. Flow comes from the
pump, to the heater and lower hose (if stat is open). The circulation you
get in the reservoir is from the internal/heater circulation until the stat
opens.
Do you have coolant in there or just trial run with water? I found that with

a 92C stat, just water won't open it most of the time. :o
