  That device is a pressure thing.  It has a valve of some sort in it and
right
now I don't remember which way it works but it's to stop too much blowby
going through or such.  Velocity goes too high or the wrong way or such
and it closes off as I recall. Same thing as the Ford and GM diesels
have on them only they're a cad plated can.  Maybe VW's slows down
the oil migration as well?  <shrug>
