[Vwdiesel] TDI power

I think it looks like the clogged instake, the MAF, and possibly stuck turbo
vanes. He says definitely no power over 3000, and suspects also the turbo
because he doesn't hear it whine so much anymore, although he also said the
power seemed no different than when he bought it (with 107K on it), so the
intake and MAF were probably already a problem. He also said he mostly kept it
under 2000 when driving (he was used to driving a Land Rover and Ford Expedition
with big V8's) which he thought was correct since there was no high end power.
I explained to him that generally any small engine should *never* be driven
under 2000 lest you burn the valves, although the TDI might be somewhat of an
except since it's peak torque is at 1900, unlike the other vw diesels with a
peak torque around 2400, but I certainly wouldn't drive at less than 1900.
Could be too, I'd think, that driving around mostly that slow would cause the
turbo vanes to freeze?
