  Ours and most states DO pay you for excess generated power that
goes back into the grid.  I've checked into it.  My cousin's the head of
that department at our local PUD.  They even have a "green" incentive
program where people pay EXTRA to "use" green power (don't ask!)  ;-)
This excess $$ is put in a pool fund which is divided up amongst the
"green power" suppliers according to their share of contribution, at the
end of the year.  To meter your power they swap in a "two-way" meter
at no charge even.
  Again I think this subject has gone more than it's share beyond the
scope of VW diesels.  :)
