[Vwdiesel] A bit off topic, but the key is for a jetta..

The 2000 TDI I bought only had one key (with the remote lock/unlock
feature). The dealer is providing me with two more (one is valet) but
says I have to have the keys programmed by the service department. They
provided the new keys for free and I guess the programming is also.
I read the owner's manual for the jetta and programming new keys does
not seem to be that big of a deal as long as you have one programmed
key. Or is there wizardry at work here and I just do not have the big
picture?
A new key (with remote features) was quoted as $100 by one of the
salesmen. Is this true? Are there after market key sources that are a
bit cheaper? It is the first key of this kind I have ever used. No
teeth but flat sides with a channel running down the center. Love the
remote door opener. Car even talks to you.
