Yup, there's a nice, big 1.6D cast into the block. No identifier on the
1.5 other than the letter codes.
Hey Forest! I reused stretch bolts (before I knew any better) and
didn't have any problems. I wouldn't recommend doing it again
though. Not worth the risk.
Ken, CLEAN out the head bolt holes lest ye risk cracking your block!
Scrape the bottom and blow them out. Worth the few bucks to buy
the correct tap if you have the availability of one too. Put a couple drops
of oil on the threads and where the head meets the washer, on assembly.
BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE CORRECT TORQUE PROCEDURE!!!
Take all of them to something like 28 ft/lbs, then 43 (I'm working from
memory here). Then another 180 degrees and you may do that in
2 X 90 increments. Start and warm the engine, pull the valve cover
and do another 90. After 600 miles do another 90! Be sure to
torque in the proper sequence as well.
I use emory cloth to clean the mating surfaces of the head and block.
IF you have a depth gauge or dial caliper handy it never hurts to actually
measure the piston projection to be sure you get the correct gasket.
Sometimes they get replaced with whatever's available so using a
matching gasket doesn't necessarily guarantee you'll be using the
correct gasket.
