[Vwdiesel] Radio problems

The new 2000 jetta TDI's radio AM reception is terrible. It seems that
this is "normal" for this vintage of vw radio. I have also heard that
sometimes it can be corrected by rerouting the antenna wire or
correcting grounds. ( the sis a service bulletin) I have also heard that
it is unfixable and to live with it.

The signal will have bursts of static, sometimes weak but sometimes
strong and drowns out the station. It can be very intermittent and comes
on for no good reason. The AM reception is a bit weak all around,
compared to the after market Sony I had in the old vw.

Anyone have this problem and able to correct it? I have also been told
that if I put in an after market, the dealer will no connect their
computer since 12 ends up on circuits it should not be on (probably from
the need to pick it up when the key is off).
