You give VW too much credit here. I have seen numerous thermostats in a
wide variety of cars fail in both open and closed positions. I doubt
that VW designs thermostats at all. It seems more likely that Behr,
etc. design and build to VW's engine specs.
Why would anyone spend all winter driving around with no heat to save
$20? I guess you're not up in north Texas, where I froze my butt off in
the month of March some years back :-)
