In Canada, we also saw the Passat as the first TDI model in 1996, not sure if wagons
were available in '96, but a '97 or '98 Passat TDI wagon was the first TDI I drove...

Several years - the G/J continued to get the 1.9L IDI until they saw the TDI, in '98 (I
think) for the Jetta, and '99 or '00 for the Golf (I think), someone please correct me
here.

Yes, we even have a few 5 cyl diesel Eurovans, I've seen passenger, cargo, and
double cab versions. But they are NA IDI 2.4L, not TDI.--
